Polygon-powered web3 video game Chainers unveils dates for closed playtest

Free-to-play web3 video game Chainers announced a closed playtest for its multiplayer shooter, offering rewards in NFTs and CFB tokens.

Chainers.io, which claims to have over 25 million NFTs distributed and a community of more than 350,000 players, aims to tap into web3 gaming momentum by offering a blockchain-based gaming experience that combines familiar mechanics with tokenized rewards.

The free-to-play Minecraft-style MMORPG web3 video game, with its own sidechain powered by Polygon, has announced a closed playtest for its upcoming multiplayer shooter mode, dubbed “Chainers Arena Playtest.”

The playtest, which will run from Dec. 5-6, will offer a select group of players the chance to test out the game’s multiplayer shooter, provide feedback, and earn rewards in non-fungible tokens or CFB tokens.

The Chainers Arena is the first multiplayer shooter within the Chainers ecosystem, combining blockchain technology with familiar gameplay mechanics. The announcement marks the game’s latest step in the developers’ effort to merge traditional gaming experiences with web3 rewards.

The closed playtest aims to showcase the game’s multiplayer shooter mode, Chainers Arena, which introduces tactical gameplay elements designed to engage both competitive gamers and blockchain enthusiasts.

Simultaneously, the developers claim the broader Chainers universe features interconnected gameplay elements. As such, achievements earned in the Chainers Arena shooter can influence other parts of the game, such as NFT Farm, where players cultivate plants that generate FRI, a non-exchangeable in-game token.

According to the developers, resources produced in NFT Farm will soon be usable to enhance performance in shooter mode, creating a symbiotic relationship between all the games within the Chainers web3 universe. Similarly, rewards earned in Chainers Arena can improve farming capabilities, further integrating the two game modes.

“In future resources crafted on the NFT Farm can power your performance in the shooter, while rewards earned in Arena battles can improve your farming setup. This synergy adds depth and strategy, allowing players to explore various gameplay styles while remaining part of a cohesive universe.”

It’s understood that players will eventually have the ability to customize their characters, purchase exclusive NFTs, and engage in various in-game challenges and competitions.

The developers note that Chainers Arena shooter mode is the first multiplayer combat experience within the Chainers ecosystem, adding further that the mode brings a “layer of tactical gameplay,” making Arena not just a game, but a “thrilling competitive space where strategy and action collide.”

Moreover, developers also reward players with Polygon (POL) tokens for completing in-game events in the NFT Farm, which can also be withdrawn to self-custodial wallets.

“Instead of focusing purely on earnings, Chainers offers a dynamic Web 3 world with enjoyable P2E mechanics. The economy of Chainers is crafted around in-game tokens like FRI and CFB, which players can earn through tasks, challenges, and completing simple tasks.”

Chainers

Chainers aligns itself with the expanding web3 gaming industry, which the developers expect to grow significantly over the next several years. According to their projections, the market is set to rise “from $140.7 billion in 2024 to $226 billion by 2031.” The growth is expected to be fueled by advancements in technologies such as virtual reality, augmented reality, and cross-platform gaming, the developers say.

To join the playtest, users need to sign up through the Chainers.io registration form, after which selected participants will gain access to the game and be encouraged to provide feedback to help improve it. Participants will be rewarded with an exclusive “Dummy” character skin for “valuable feedback” and can earn 400 CFB tokens based on their activity.

The Chainers universe is set to expand in 2024 and beyond, with future updates promising new resources, crafting systems, and multiplayer functionalities. Following the playtest, the developers plan to continue refining Chainers Arena, with an official launch set for a later date.
